Dear Global Family,

Counting our blessings and appreciating what, or who, we have in our lives can serve as a source of comfort and emotional stability for many. It is about appreciating the simple things in life and showing thanks to the family and friends that love and support you.

Especially during this lockdown, many mothers are working extra hard to support their children, making sure they are completing all school work and being well-fed every day. This is no easy feat.

In the United States, we celebrate Mother’s day every second Sunday of May. This Mother’s Day, I suggest that we all start practicing and expressing gratitude to our mothers who invest with love in all that they do for the family every day.

It was not until I became a mother myself that I came to realize the amazing love that mothers can give to their children and families. Mothers are constantly taking care of their families and going out of their way to make sure that each family member is safe, fed, healthy, and loved.

When I reflect on myself, without my mother’s endless prayers, sacrificial love, life teachings, and most importantly, without the exemplary life that she showed me, I would not be able to stand firmly on my own today. I am so grateful to be the daughter of such a humble and great woman. In the same way that I learned to appreciate my mother and strive to follow her footsteps throughout my life, it is my hope to become a great mother that my own children can look up to.

At GPW, we aim to spread a culture of happy and healthy families by inviting families to share loving family stories with people around the world. I invite you to join the Family Stories Campaign, an on-going campaign GPW launched this year, with the theme of “Appreciating Parents.” You can join the campaign by filling out the form here.

You can find other stories here and follow our #familystories2020 here.

We hope you are inspired to share your own story, especially for this occasion. We would love to know your unique story and about what you appreciate the most about your mother for this upcoming Mother’s day!

I hope you and your family are safe and healthy during this pandemic.
Enjoy a heartwarming Mother’s Day spent meaningfully!

Sincerely,

Best Regards,
Dr. Soonok Kang,
Secretary General, Global Peace Women
