“The Peacebook project is very important as it helps students and society a lot. The students are encouraged to read a lot of books,” said Kim Srey Pich, a Peacebook volunteer. “For the volunteers, they learn lots of things such as managing books. They can improve their communication skills.”

Volunteers involved in the Peacebook library project developed a library in a primary school to enhance literacy in the community. The Peacebook library project was one of three initiatives by Global Peace Volunteers (GPV) to raise up communities in Cambodia. The other initiatives were the EnglishEd (English Teaching project) and the GreenEd (Environmental Teaching Project). To further the work of these impactful initiatives, there was an online recruitment program to train volunteers for these projects in April.

Through zoom meetings, the upcoming volunteers were trained on the moral principles of Global Peace Foundation, such as viewing others as part of a global family and living for the greater good of the world. Vong Sovina, an GreenEd volunteer, shared the experience of sharing these ideals with others: “Other volunteer teachers and I have become more responsible in promoting knowledge and spreading the ideas of living in greater good. Taking a deep view towards society, potential youth like us will then spread the values of GPAC projects, so that others may change their perspectives to help serve the community together in the future,”

While online trainings continue, waiting for a time to resume in-person mentorship and projects, volunteers conducted WASH from August through September. This program was designed to educate kids on a healthy lifestyle, covering topics like clean water, sanitization, and hygiene in line with UNICEF’s program guidelines.
