Leading telecommunications services provider, Airtel, launched it’s Free Internet for Schools Programme in Kisii County, allowing 20 schools to connect to the internet for free. This program is currently being used in 32 counties, which includes 197 institutions and 250,000 students in Kenya. Airtel aims to reach 1 million students in Kenya by the end of 2016.

“It is encouraging to see Airtel take this initiative with the objective of enhancing the quality of learning through the provision of free internet connectivity to schools. This is an opportunity for our students to be able to access the relevant educational information available online; which will enable them to grow with knowledge needed for the future,” said Dr. Fred Matiang’i, Education Cabinet Secretary in Kenya.

Airtel also continues to work with British Council and Global Peace Foundation to provide free internet connection to over 60 hubs located in schools around the country that serve as ICT Centers for teachers, students and communities.
