Early February, the alleged worst disaster in the past decade in Indonesia’s greater Jakarta area occurred when heavy rainfall resulted in dangerous floods. According to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), 19,203 residents were affected by the flood. In response, Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Indonesia visited five orphanages impacted by the flood under the “Small Action Big Impact” service project.

The project ran in partnership with Bluemart Indonesia and Kapiler Indonesia for five days, in which the volunteers taught the orphans to maintain habits to minimize the effects of flooding. “I am very happy to take part in this activity. I was taught how to prepare a disaster prepared bag so that if floods come, I can save important items,” said Jaki, one of the children of YASNI Pejaten Orphanage.

The volunteers also played games with the children and distributed 862 boxes of food donations from Bluemart Indonesia in collaboration with the food and beverage companies, Mayora, Kalbe, Danone, Good Day, and Mamee Group. “Bluemart Indonesia would like to thank our partners and Global Peace Foundation Indonesia for helping us to distribute and conduct this project for orphans who affected by the flood,” said  Dani Vanadi Junius, Bluemart Indonesia’s Offline Marketing Specialist. “We hope that we can ease the burden of the orphans.”

Global Peace Foundation (GPF) wishes to continue the collaboration with GPF’s partners to further help citizens against disasters.
