Washington, DC – August 11, 2014 – Eight hundred young professionals, entrepreneurs, social activists, and student leaders, representing almost 70 countries, will take part in the 4th International  Young Leaders Assembly in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York from August 11-20, 2014. Highlights include forums at the UN and World Bank. The International Young Leaders Assembly is a practicum on leadership that addresses the global challenges of the twenty-first century.

The program kicked off in Washington, D.C. on August 12, marking the U.N. International Day of Youth.

On August 15 the World Bank hosts the 4th IYLA participants for the Global Forum on Youth Service and the Global Forum on Youth Entrepreneurship.

The program in Washington, D.C. also includes a forum on Capitol Hill, a U.S.-China Youth Summit, a State Department briefing, and a visit to the Supreme Court. There will also be briefings at the embassies of Saudi Arabia, Colombian, Mexico, Spain, Malaysia and Philippines among the 18 co-sponsoring embassies.

The theme of the 4th IYLA is Moral and Innovative Leadership: Vision, Service, and Entrepreneurship. The program highlights the importance of values-based and creative leadership in pursuing a vision of one global human family that transcends boundaries of nationality, race and religion. It also engages delegates with the workings of government, entrepreneurship and social leadership at the highest levels and provides a unique, first-hand perspective behind powerful podiums.

The Assembly will visit Independence Hall in Philadelphia on August 16 and attend a briefing from former mayor Wilson Goode at the National Constitution Center and a dialog about the global implications of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.

On August 19, participants will take part in sessions at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to examine the mission of the world’s preeminent international representative body, and the leadership required to effectively achieve the ideals of the UN’s founding Charter. The sessions will include a High Level Plenary featuring the Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi, and a Youth Panel where young leaders will present initiatives they have pioneered.
