Global Peace Convention 2012 in Georgia, Atlanta.
Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States was announced as the site of the Global Peace Convention 2012 at the close of the GPC Korea 2011 in Seoul. The flag of the Global Peace Convention was formally handed over by Mr. David Kyung Eui Yoo, Secretary-General of the GPC Korea 2011, to Senator Emanuel Jones, chair of GPF-Atlanta and a Georgia state senator.
Senator Jones was accompanied on the stage by representatives of the Atlanta Global Peace Youth Corps and partner youth organizations from the city. The convention will be held in November 2012.
In accepting the honor Sen. Jones reminded the international audience that Atlanta was the birthplace of the U.S. civil rights movement of the 1960s and the city where Dr. Martin Luther King preached at Ebenezer Baptist Church. The GPC 2012 will focus strongly on the interfaith component of GPFF’s work.
GPFF also has a strong foundation in Atlanta through its involvement in the Strengthening Families and Communities Coalition. The coalition unites over 40 local organizations to tackle problems related to: teen violence, school drop-out, teen pregnancy, and financial illiteracy. It aims to help young people establish a firm moral and practical foundation for their lives. GPFF is one of the main facilitators of the coalition.
