GPF Patron Dr. Manu Chandaria Recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Transform Kenya Awards

Global Peace Foundation Patron Dr. Manu Chandaria was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the inaugural ceremony of the Transform Kenya Awards in Nairobi on 19 July, 2014. A noted corporate leader and philanthropist, Dr. Chandaria was recognized for his long record of public service and philanthropy.

The Transform Kenya Awards is a joint initiative of Kenya’s leading media firm, Standard Group, and the international financial services company Deloitte. The Awards recognize people and institutions committed to improving the lives of other Kenyans and driving transformation in society through an emphasis on values.

The Lifetime Achievement Award, which is most prestigious, recognizes the leadership, service and lasting impact that an individual has made in his or her industry. The Chandaria Foundation has benefited many schools and clinics in the country.

Recently the Foundation established the Chandaria Business Incubation and Innovation Centre at Kenyatta University. In addition, annual it awards 100s of scholarships for secondary school students.

“These awards celebrate heroes and heroines, ordinary people doing something to change lives,” said Standard Group CEO Sam Shollei. He added that the award would contribute to Kenya’s narrative for the next 50 years. Among the noted guests at the ceremony were President Barrack Obama’s grandmother, Mama Sarah Obama; Tourism Cabinet Secretary Phylis Kandie; British High Commissioner to Kenya Dr. Christian Turner; and Nelson Mandela’s grandson Ndaba Mandela. Mr. Mandela, a philanthropist and founder of Africa Rising Foundation, thanked GPF for taking action during Mandela Day and expressed an interest in working with the Global Peace Foundation to inspire the next generation of African leaders and give skills to enter the workforce and participate in the broader society as responsible citizens.
