Founding President of the Republic of Seychelles

The Global Peace Foundation conveys our sincere condolences to the family of Sir James Richard Marie Mancham KBE. He passed away at his home in Seychelles on January 8th. Sir Mancham was a moral and diplomatic giant who supported our vital peace work and inspired youth across Africa and the world. His tireless promotion of peace will long be remembered throughout the world.


Brief Biography


Sir James R. Mancham KBE was the founding President of the Republic of Seychelles. He was educated in UK and France. His many honours and decorations include Knight of the British Empire (KBE) UK and Officier de La Legion d’Honneur of France. He is a Fellow Member of the Royal Society for Manufacturer Arts and Commerce; a member of the Board of Advisors of World Future Council; a member of the Academic of the European Center for Peace Development; and a member of the Board of Advisors of the World Entrepreneurial Forum and the Institute of Cultural Diplomacy. He recently launched a new magazine focused on international geo-political developments entitled, “Voice of the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea.” He received the 2010 International Jurists Award from the Vice President of India at the Indian Parliament. In 2011 he received the Gusi Peace Award for statesmanship. 

His support and leadership have been pivotal in establishing many of our key milestones. Sir Mancham is a founding member of the Global Peace Leadership Council and was part of founding the Latin American Presidential Mission and the the African Leadership Mission on Peacebuilding, Youth Leadership and Service in 2013.
