Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Nigeria is engaging diverse stakeholder groups in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State in the South-South Region of Nigeria in capacity-building workshops and dialogue forums to help mitigate perpetual violent conflicts that are devastating the region. Some of the conflict is related to land disputes, kidnapping for ransom, and tension over oil and gas extraction which is devastating the environment and making the soil infertile for farming without compensation by the government. The ongoing conflict has caused excessive damage to the socio-economic status of the inhabitants in the region, resulting in abject poverty and hunger. In order to advance economic activities and facilitate peacebuilding, GPF Nigeria brought together a group of local stakeholders on June 15, 2022.

At the meeting, Mr. Amadi, a youth leader in the Etche community, advised the community members to embrace each other and learn to forgive, while stressing the vital role youth play in promoting peace.
