Global Peace Foundation Nigeria is striving to create peace in areas of conflict through community partnerships and programs that are bringing together all sectors of society. Volunteers from GPF collaborated with security personal to invite youth of various religious and ethnic groups from Zangon Kataf, Kaura, Kauru, and Jama’a Local Government areas to meet at the Kafanchan Police Area Command office to advance their peacebuilding efforts.

The Area Commandant of Kafanchan Division of the Nigeria Police declared the purpose of the meeting was to discuss security issues and to create sustainable peace in the area. He called on the youth leaders especially to take responsibility for their actions in their respective communities and to allow people to live in the community they chose regardless of race or background. He also advised them to not engage in any form of violence and to report any suspicious person or crime in their communities. Youth are targeted by extremist groups in the region and play a significant role in mitigating violence and building sustainable peace.

The youth leaders engaged themselves in this peaceful dialogue and pledged to do their best in restoring peace in the area by working together and embracing each other as a family rather than strangers or enemies. One such youth, Maaasir Ado Sarkin Samarin Bajju, expressed, “In our capacity as youth, we will spread the message of peace to the best of our ability.”

Chaiwai Youth Representative, Richard Musa, was grateful to part of this meeting by providing a place for these crucial peace dialogues. He explained that dialogues such as these were crucial for providing peace in the communities by creating understanding among members of different ethnic and religious groups.
