Families in Goias, Brazil are using a simple but innovative method to resolve conflicts and strengthen their community. Called “Peace Building Circles,” students and their parents were brought together by the women’s division of Global Peace Foundation (Global Peace Women), to create safe spaces for people to discuss solutions to challenges facing the community based on their common values.

Beatriz Munhoz, Director of GPW Brazil, was instrumental in putting the program together. She shared, “This project is an important and an easy way to build healthy relationships. Here in Brazil, like around the world, most people have trouble to create strong relationships in the family and in society. In many cases they believe in God, they believe in family, but they don’t know how to solve the conflicts and how to restore positive relationships.”

The Peace Building Circles held gatherings from June to September 2019, providing discussion groups for diverse demographics, including specific groups for students, adult parents, and women, and plan on making the circles of conversation into clubs that can be held in different locations and schools continue to host these circles of conversations.
