When the Super Typhoon Rai/Odette hit the Philippines on December 16, 2021,  and Global Peace Foundation joined hands with Global Peace Women to provide disaster relief through, “Operation Karunungan.” The typhoon displaced 21,000 people and damaged nearly 2.1 million houses according to local government reports.

Through the collective efforts of the various civic organizations and partners, the team visited many areas and reached the residents and community partners with food packs, water purifiers, solar lamps, hygiene kits, and vitamins. Most relief efforts focused on Burgos Siargao, a region where most houses and communities were destroyed by the typhoon.

GPF is committed to helping empower leaders, youth, and volunteers to become peacebuilders in their communities. Volunteerism is an impotant avenue for peace and development, especially in caring for the immediate needs of people affected by sudden tragedy.
