Nigerian leaders stand together

In Nigeria’s Kaduna State, ongoing attacks and destruction have devastated many communities in addition to the challenges faced by the global pandemic. Aiming to help provide a platform for dialogue, Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Nigeria reached out to respected Christian and Muslim leaders in Kujuru to create peace in the area who shared messages of peace, love, and forgiveness. GPF promotes this peace based direction based on the understanding that everyone, regardless of religion or race is part of one human family under God.

The following is an excerpt from Radio Nigeria: Kajuru Unrest: NGO appeals to clerics to preach peace

An NGO, Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, GPFN, has appealed to Christian and Muslim leaders in the Kajuru local government area of Kaduna state to preach love, forgiveness, and tolerance towards restoring peace in the area.

This followed continuous attacks and unrest leading to loss of lives and destruction of property of natives and the Hausa-Fulani communities.

The country director of GPFN, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, made the appeal during an outreach organized for 60 religious clerics in Kajuru.

Rev. Hayab said the sensitization program, which brought together Christian and Muslim preachers from the most affected areas, was targeted at rebuilding trust and confidence, to enable them to live in peace for the economic survival of the community.

He admonished the leaders to intensify preaching messages of love and understanding, as well as the commonality between the adherence of the two major religions in the area.

The Northern Coordinator of GPFN, Sheikh Halilu Abdulahi reminded them that God has given them the great and sacred task of preaching peace and unity to contribute their quota for the corporate existence of the country.

“Your roles as peacebuilders of any society is needed as the country is faced with so many challenges that require all hands to be on deck for the survival of Nigeria.

Chairmen of CAN and JNI in Kajuru, Rev. Makama Mazadu, and Imam Shafiu promised to preach messages of peace.

The NGO distributed peace educational materials to participants.
