Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Indonesia engaged twenty youth from Surabaya, Jogjakarta, Makassar, and Bandung in a series of training modules and leadership development activities during the 2021 virtual Global Peace Volunteer (GPV) Camp from July 6 to 9.

GPV is an ongoing program that provides youth in Indonesia and Southeast Asia with moral and innovative leadership training to make positive changes in their communities.

Participants learned about fostering a culture of service, creating action plans, and serving their communities. Despite being hosted online, the creative icebreakers and activities like life graph mapping and team performances kept the virtual camp engaging. “The euphoria of this Virtual GPV Camp is like offline activity,” commented one participant.

As they grew closer as a team, participants learned how to apply GPF’s approach to peacebuilding as well as to see each other as part of the larger human family.

The team learned to approach conflict from the mindset of mutual respect and shared values. They discovered that no one group is the cause of problems, but all groups contribute to the solution to peacebuilding.

Pre- and post-program surveys found that participants gained insight into their personalities and personal vision while learning more about GPF’s leadership core values and unique approach to peacebuilding.

The Global Peace Volunteer Camp is a GPF Indonesia initiative that began in 2010. Learn more about the ongoing work of Global Peace Foundation Indonesia.
