Global Peace Women and Global Peace Foundation Philippines started the holiday season in November with a special Halloween Project. The Halloween Project combines activities such as Quaran-Trick or Treat, pre-Christmas gift-giving, and family volunteerism to light the holiday spark dimmed by the pandemic. This special project reached 180 beneficiaries.

The ‘Quaran – Trick or Treat’ was a Halloween event for the kids which featured “loot bags full of goodies” which helped “cheer up the kids.” Loma, a mother who participated in the event, reported, “I’m so inspired that my kids have the opportunity to enjoy things like the Halloween party despite the pandemic. This is the first time they went outside. I hope we can all back to normal, and the virus will totally go away.”

The other program, “Christmas Gift Giving,” was conducted on November 29th and 30th. The gift-giving was done in collaboration with the YWCA Founders Chapter of Rizal and supported “Giving Tuesday.” The first batch of ‘Christmas Gift Giving’ was sent out to the Brgy Balibago Talim Island on November 29th, followed by a second one on November 30th at Sitio Diversion in Cardona Rizal. All fifty families were delighted to receive the package. Jun, one of the beneficiaries, expressed her gratitude and said, “the food supplies are really helpful to us.”

Lastly, the project featured family volunteerism by the Mira family with a “Kindness through Family Service’ Community Pantry’ – on November 24th, supported by GPF and GPW Philippines. It was an initiative for families to receive food supplies ahead of Christmas. “I regularly visit the Cardona Community Pantry for my family…Our family has very limited resources; the pantry helps us in a way. I hope they will continue to help families like us,” said Maila, one of the beneficiaries of the pantry.

In this season of giving, the GPF Philippines Chapter is delighted to have reached many families and spread love, kindness, and joy in families at a tough time. It looks forward to supporting more families and expanding the value of peace through family, service, and volunteerism.
