Professor Leah T. Marangu bears the distinction of being the first woman in East Africa to be named a full professor. She is also the first Kenyan woman to serve at the helm of a university, following her appointment in 1996 as the Vice Chancellor of Africa Nazarene University (ANU), a position she holds to date.

She has also been Chair of the Board of Directors at Jomo Kenyatta Foundation in 1983, and her appointment marked the first time ever a woman had held such a post in a parastatal in Kenya. She has served Kenya in various capacities including Commission for Higher Education (CHE), Egerton. University Council, National Council of Science and Technology, Kenya Bureau of Standards, Kenya Institute of Education (KIE), Institute of Policy Analysis and Research (IPAR), Inter University Council for East Africa (IUCEA), Taskforce on Performance Contract among other bodies. Prof. Marangu has been involved with the Character and Creativity Initiative since August 2010 and has been the Chair of the National CCI Council for the past 2 years.

As the chair of CCI, she has provided leadership and expertise on CCI’s program implementation and development in liason with the Global Peace Foundation leading to the recent release of the KIPPRA Report on CCI by the Ministry of Education.
