Peace Festival Unites Communities in Nigeria

More than 300 people gathered to celebrate peace in Nigeria’s Kaduna State during the Hayin Banki Unity Carnival held on December 26, 2021. The celebration included youth and women leaders, traditional rulers, politicians, and faith leaders who were greeted by Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Nigeria Country Director Rev. Joseph John Hayab.

“Initially, people lived together in harmony,” Rev. Hayab said, “But we lost our peace due to the escalating tension in Kaduna State and Nigeria as a whole.” The local community and surrounding tribes resolved to take proactive measures to practice peace, gathering under the “Hayin Banki Unity Carnival”.

The Hayin Banki village head, Muhammad Shehu Galadima, also urged Nigerians to embrace peace while pleading with the government to support young people with entrepreneurial skills in order to reduce the rate of criminal activity.
